MEET OUR CATS & KITTENS LOOKING FOR A HOME

ADOPTING ONE OF OUR CATS OR KITTENS

If you see a kitty listed above that you are interested in simply drop us a line pnbkittyrescuesc@gmail.com with the name of the cat you are interested in, a little info about you, your home and your phone contact details. One of the team will be in contact for you to come and meet the cat at its foster home. This allows you to meet him /her and means we can match the right kitty to the perfect home.

All our cats & kittens go to homes desexed, microchipped and with their first vaccinations. They have also been socialised and rehabilitated ready to be part of a family.

An adoption fee of $240 applies to adoptions or $420 for a pair which is a contribution towards the cost of vet & foster care to get the kitty ready for re-homing. The fee charged does not cover the full cost but in the interest of quick re-homing we keep our fee low and look to fundraise the balance. If you would like to cover the full cost the total is $600.

Our cats & kittens are adopted a number of ways. We partner with some pet shops and will take our confident kitties in there for an adoption day. We hold events in our local region for adoptions but most of our kitties are adopted through our caring foster homes.

SOME CARE NOTES FOR YOUR NEW ARRIVAL

Your new kitty will be nervous at first so we have set out some information to guide you when getting your new family member home.

Please be mindful to never open the carrier in the car. Cats are often fearful of riding in a vehicle and can be unpredictable so keep them and yourself safe by keeping the carrier closed on the trip home.

When you get home we advise:

  • Set your kitty up in one room so they can get used to the space without it being too much too soon. Keep them in that room for 2-3 days to start. This helps make them feel secure in their new surrounds.

  • Make your room ready for your new kitty with a nice snuggle area for them. Areas they can hide in which can even be the carrier they came home in and some toys.

  • Add to the room a litter tray, scratching post as well as food & water.

  • Cats prefer their litter tray be 1.5m away from food, water & bedding so pop it in a private location so they feel secure to use the littler tray.

  • Remove any hazards in the room such as wires and curtain cords. Kittens especially can chew or get tangled in these.

  • Make sure the room does not have anything in it that you are concerned could be damaged or is dangerous to your new kitty. Cover leather couches to avoid scratching, don't leaves kids soft toys laying around etc.

  • If the room you set up has a toilet in it, be sure to keep the toilet lid closed.

  • Be mindful of noises. Ask anyone in the home to keep the sound down so you don't scare your new arrival any further.

  • Talk to young children about how to approach your new kitty and to be mindful to keep calm energy and move slowly so the kitty warms to them.

  • Don't worry if your new kitty hides for a few days and been up to a week or two, this is completely normal, this is all new to them and they are just getting to know their new surroundings. They will emerge when they are ready so be patient and just being near them is all they need to start with if they are hiding.

  • After 2-3 days in one room, slowly introduce your cat/kitten to the rest of the house. To avoid overwhelming him/her do this room by room, get them used to one room and then introduce another.

  • Keep your new cat (over the get of 1) inside for at least 3-4 weeks (may be longer for timid kitties) and for kittens (under the age of 1) we advise 6-8 weeks. Talk to our team about this if you want guidance.

  • If your kitty is confident offer them a gentle slow pat but do not overwhelm them. If they are timid and unsure the best course is to be near them either doing your own thing or talking to them gently. Being near you without feeling scared is the best way to earn their trust.

  • Always supervise children with the new arrival.

  • Keep all other pets away from your new cat/kitten initially and once you feel they are confident in their space you might like to introduce them slowly by crating one animal and letting them sniff and see each other and gradually go from there.
